A beautiful project that is now featured in their 2025 calendar.
This experience was beyond just another project; it was a powerful reminder of the strength, resilience, and beauty of the women who have faced this diagnosis. Working with them has moved me in ways I can’t quite put into words, but I’ll do my best to share a bit of that day and how much it meant to me.

The Power of Community and Awareness
Through Sanique + Co., I’ve always believed in connecting people—not just through words but through meaningful art. And supporting breast cancer awareness through art and this project with BRCAStrong brought that purpose to life. Breast cancer doesn’t discriminate; it affects women of every age, background, and culture. Seeing the bravery of these women who came together for the Dear Body shoot, each one bearing her unique journey, was a such humbling experience.
The Dear Body Photo Shoot is more than a calendar. It’s a celebration of survival, a tribute to resilience, and a reminder of the importance of breast cancer awareness. As I met each of these beautiful, strong women, it reinforced to me that this work is about more than just art. My calligraphy became a way to honor their journeys, to add a personal touch that celebrates each of them as the unique individuals they are.

A Story That Touched My Heart Deeply
One story that struck me especially hard was of a woman who received her breast cancer diagnosis at just 27 years old. Hearing those words at such a young age feels almost unimaginable, yet it’s a harsh reality for many. Her strength and courage inspired me in so many ways, and I feel more driven than ever to spread the message that early detection can make a life-saving difference.
Early detection is so important. It not only increases survival rates but also provides more options for treatment, which can be life-altering. Knowledge truly is power, and in the fight against breast cancer, awareness and regular screenings are tools that can save lives.
If there’s one takeaway I want to emphasize, it’s the importance of spreading awareness. Talk to the women in your life—your sisters, moms, grandmothers, friends, aunties—and encourage them to get regular check-ups. Cancer doesn’t care about age, background, or health status. We all need to look out for one another and make sure that everyone knows about the value of early detection.
Breast Cancer Awareness Through My Art
Supporting breast cancer awareness through art and working with BRCAStrong wasn’t just a passion project for me; it’s a way to use my skills in calligraphy to give back in a way that feels deeply meaningful. It’s not just about creating something beautiful; it’s about making art that speaks to a purpose, that amplifies voices, and that shares a message of hope, resilience, and strength.
My experience with the Dear Body Photo Shoot was emotional and deeply rewarding. To stand beside these survivors, adding calligraphy touches to their photos, brought a personal connection to my art that I’ll always cherish. Each stroke of my pen felt like a tribute to their bravery. Their stories and resilience became a source of inspiration that I hope shines through in my work.

Supporting BRCAStrong’s Mission
BRCAStrong’s work is so important, not only in helping women on their journeys but also in raising awareness and funds for those who need support. Buying a Dear Body calendar is one small way to contribute to this cause, and each calendar sold helps fund their mission to support and empower women dealing with breast cancer.
I’m proud to be even a small part of that mission by supporting breast cancer awareness through art, and I encourage you to join in too! The calendar is not just a collection of beautiful photos; it’s a year-long reminder of the importance of early detection and the power of community. Every time I think about the women I met that day, I’m reminded that we all have a part to play in raising awareness.
How You Can Support Breast Cancer Awareness
In addition to the Dear Body calendar, there are many ways to make a difference and spread awareness about breast cancer. Here are a few ideas to help support the cause, whether you’re directly impacted or looking to stand in solidarity:
Encourage loved ones to get screened regularly (I know I mentioned this already but it’s worth mentioning again because it is SO important)
Donate to organizations (like BRCAStrong)
Support breast cancer awareness events
Spread the word on social media
Purchase fundraising items (like the Dear Body Calendar)
Every action, big or small, helps create a ripple effect. Supporting these efforts can lead to real change, helping women and families affected by breast cancer feel more supported and informed.
